What’s coming up in Ensembl 101 / Ensembl Genomes 48?

Ensembl 101 (and Ensembl Genomes 48) are due out in mid-July 2020. As with all releases, we cannot guarantee that anything listed here will make it into the final release.


Major Data Updates


New Genomes

Including six new genomes from the Vertebrate Genomes Project (VGP).

Mammals:

  • Balaenoptera musculus (Blue whale) VGP
  • Cervus hanglu yarkandensis (Yarkand deer)
  • Monodon monoceros (Narwhal)
  • Phocoena sinus (Vaquita) VGP
  • Sciurus vulgaris (Eurasian red squirrel) VGP
  • Zalophus californianus (California sea lion) VGP

New sheep and goat breeds:

  • Ovis aries (Rambouillet sheep) – new sheep reference!*
  • Capra hircus (Black Bengal goat)

* We have updated the reference to the new Rambouillet breed, but still support Texel as an alternative breed. Rambouillet will have a new set of Ensembl identifiers, while Texel will keep its existing identifiers. The variation data will only be available on the Texel assembly in the upcoming release.

Birds:

  • Anas zonorhyncha (Eastern spot-billed duck)
  • Bubo bubo (Eurasian eagle-owl)
  • Buteo japonicus (Eastern buzzard)
  • Cairina moschata domestica (Muscovy Duck, domestic type)

  • Support for BCF files
  • Added sunflower variation data
  • Renamed almond gene names
  • Phenotypic data displayed in Arabidopsis thaliana reduced to only significant p-values to avoid display issues
  • Chromosome specific KASP markers added for wheat (Triticum Aestivum)
  • EPO alignment names changed to better reflect our alignment strategy: EPO changed to EPO core while EPO low coverage became EPO extended
  • The Wellcome Sanger Institute Genome Editing (WGE) CRISPR Cas9 track has been updated to include the percent in-frame and favoured mutations as predicted by FORECasT. The track is now listed under Genome targeting in Configure this page
  • Retirement of may2015.archive.ensembl.org (Ensembl 80) archive site
